Jesus had a lot to say about what it means to be happy. People often say I want my children to be happy and my family to be happy. But we define happiness based on things we acquire or things in life that we’re confident will bring us happiness. Jesus takes our shallow understanding of happiness and turns it upside down. Corresponding Scripture: Matthew 5:1-4; 1 Corinthians:3-7
1 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up a mountain. He sat down and his disciples came to him.2 He taught them, saying:
3 “Happy are people who are hopeless, because the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
4 “Happy are people who grieve, because they will be made glad.
3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 I thank my God always for you, because of God’s grace that was given to you in Christ Jesus. 5 That is, you were made rich through him in everything: in all your communication and every kind of knowledge, 6 in the same way that the testimony about Christ was confirmed with you. 7 The result is that you aren’t missing any spiritual gift while you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.
