This past Sunday in the 11:00 a.m. Traditions service I announced a Lenten Pilgrimage to the Holy Land! That’s right! From March 23 to April 2, 2019, I am inviting Asbury on a 10-day journey to the land where Jesus walked. Some of the sights that we will visit include…
- Cana of Galilee
- Sea of Galilee
- of Beatitudes
- Jordan River
- Dome of the Rock
- The Wailing Wall
- of Olives
- Garden of Gethsemane
- Upper Room
- The Garden Tomb
- Via Dolorosa
The Sea of Galilee
Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem
It has been many years since my parents first took me on a trip to Israel, but the images and biblical places we visited were so vivid I feel like I saw them yesterday. I cannot impress on you enough how transformative an expedition this can be for you and your family.
The complete itinerary is now available online and we’ll have brochures with pricing and registration information available at our Welcome Centers within the next week. I hope you will secure your spot on this exciting spiritual odyssey!
I wanted to also let you know that although this year’s Summer Institute of Religious Studies was full last week, we’ve added more seats and reopened registration because so many of you kept calling! (Thank you!) If you haven’t signed up, please register as soon as possible. I want to be able to have study guides accessible for everyone but we need time to prepare the material.
I’ve also asked Chef Bill Marcie to have Wednesday night dinners available every night of the Summer Institute and you can make dinner reservations starting this Sunday. Chef Bill’s menus are all available online and you can also find that information at our Welcome Desks. Here’s a look at the menu:

I trust that you will have a great week and I look forward to seeing you in worship this coming Sunday as I continue my summer sermon series:
Rev. Dr. Kip Laxson
P.S. I hope you’ll remember to keep Asbury in your prayers over the next week as the church will be transformed into a Rolling River Rampage! Vacation Bible School is June 25-28 and our children’s ministry staff has been working tirelessly to prepare for the 550+ children who are registered to attend. If you’d like to help our staff and volunteers prepare, Angie tells me they’re setting up on Sunday at 12:30. They also need pre-lit or unlit artificial Christmas trees (for props) and food items like baked goods, 12-oz cans of soda, pretzels, chocolate chips, Chex mix, mini marshmallows and/or gummies). All of that can be delivered to Asbury on Sunday.
